## Caption

You’re looking at the intersection of Valencia and 18th Streets on November 21, 1917.

The first photo shows the photographer’s cases sitting on the sidewalk in front of Crowley and Magendie Funeral Directors at 692 Valencia, and some incredible advertisements for the Orpheum and Savoy Theatres, Hills Bros. Coffee, and a Red Cross fundraiser surrounding a lumber yard across the street.

The second photo shows the same funeral home building on the left and the James M. Donnell liquors at 699 Valencia across the street on the right. Billboards for the Pantages and Strand Theaters as well as one promoting Charles A. Sweigert for District Attorney are seen in front of an empty lot next door.
