Sir Tyrone Guthrie was widely considered one of the stage's greatest and most inventive directors of the mid-20th century. In 1967, THIRTEEN's Creative Person explored Guthrie's acclaimed career, from his early days in England at the Old Vic — a historic theater in London — to his work in North America. He focused on Shakespeare and classics as founding director of the Tyrone Guthrie Repertory Theater in Minneapolis and founding artistic director of the Stratford Festival in Ontario, Canada. His innovation was to bring audiences closer to actors through "thrust-stages," with seating on three sides.

THIRTEEN follows Guthrie as he runs rehearsals for his Broadway production of "Dinner at Eight" and offers masterclass advice to college students staging Chekhov's "The Three Sisters."

Through intimate interviews with his peers of actors and designers, discover how Guthrie invigorated the theater experience.
