Planning to watch the solar eclipse today? 🌞🌑 Make sure you know how to protect your eyes. 👀

Oxford PhD student astronomywithandrea explains how to watch an eclipse safely, including how to check that your eclipse glasses are the right kind.

⚠️ Never look directly at the Sun without proper eclipse glasses unless you are in a location experiencing 100% totality, and only during the brief period of totality itself. Your glasses should meet the ISO 12312-2 (or ISO 12312-2:2015) safety standard (ordinary sunglasses aren’t enough).

Some locations in Europe, will experience 100% totality. In places such as the UK, the eclipse will only be partial, meaning there is no point at which it is safe to look directly at the Sun without eclipse glasses.

And if you are in the path of totality, remember to put your eclipse glasses back on as soon as the Sun begins to reappear!
