Replacing the leadership and production of Sam Hoiberg and Jamarques Lawrence became one of Nebraska's top priorities this offseason.

The Huskers believe they found their new floor general in Utah Valley transfer Trevan Leonhardt.

Leonhardt arrives in Lincoln after averaging 11.9 points, 6.0 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game last season while earning First Team All-WAC and WAC All-Defensive Team honors. His ability to create for others has already made an impression during summer workouts.

"He's an elite passer," Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg said.

Teammate Sam Orme has noticed it as well.

"He's made some passes where I'm kind of like, 'Dang, how did he see that?'" Orme said. "He just sees the game from a different perspective."

Hoiberg said Leonhardt's decision-making has been just as impressive as his passing. During one stretch of summer workouts, the point guard posted a 20-to-3 assist-to-turnover ratio, while his team recorded a 27-to-7 ratio during a recent scrimmage.

Leonhardt said Nebraska's offense gives point guards freedom to read the defense and make plays.

"Coach is right, it's random, but there's also a plan," Leonhardt said.

The transition to Lincoln has extended beyond the basketball court. Leonhardt married his wife in May, and the couple moved to Nebraska shortly afterward.

He said adjusting to his new teammates has been just as seamless.

"Everyone on this team is a good guy," Leonhardt said. "It's actually been really easy."

If Nebraska's rebuilt offense reaches its potential this season, the Huskers believe it will begin with a point guard whose vision and basketball IQ have already earned the trust of his coaches and teammates.
