In 2019, 6-year-old Khushi had spent most of her childhood inside Bilaspur Central Jail with her father, who was serving a sentence. Her mother had died when she was just 15 days old, leaving her father as her only caregiver.

During a jail inspection, Collector Sanjay Alang met Khushi and learned that she dreamed of studying in a good school and playing with children her age. He stepped in and helped get her admitted to Jain International School, with her education and hostel expenses covered up to Class 12.

The most emotional moment came when the Collector personally took Khushi from the jail to her new school—giving a little girl who had grown up behind bars a chance at a completely different future.
