You never know what’s between the cracks and crevices of the ocean floor! 🐚🌏

#DidYouKnow the ribbon eel can be found in lagoons and reefs in the Indo-Pacific Ocean, close to East Africa, Australia, and southern Japan. This species is most often seen emerging from small crevices in the sand and rubble.

Ribbon eels are some of the most colorful creatures of the sea...but they don’t start out like that! 🌊

When ribbon eels are born, they are black with a yellow dorsal fin. As time passes, they change colors. Adult females are yellow, while adult males are blue and yellow. Their bright colors are used for signaling and camouflage.
