## Caption

Starting in the summer of 1973, Japanese photographer Masahisa Fukase began photographing his wife Yoko Wanibe every morning from the 4th floor of their Tokyo apartment as she left for work. She would wave, stick out her tongue, and pull faces up at his lens. Yoko divorced him in 1976, believing he only kept her around to photograph her.

What followed was “The Solitude of Ravens,” widely considered his greatest work and a haunting meditation on that loss.
