A man found guilty of touching women's hair as he sat behind them on Metro trains — and posting video to social media — was sentenced Thursday to 180 days in jail.⁠

Bryan Betancur, of Silver Spring, Maryland, was found guilty of simple assault in D.C. Superior Court a day earlier.⁠

"It's just a creepy thing to do," the judge said Wednesday in court.⁠
⁠
Betancur was accused of surreptitiously fondling a woman's hair on a Red Line train in February.⁠
⁠
The judge sentenced Betancur to the maximum time and gave him credit for time he’s already spent in jail, meaning he will be required to serve about another 54 days.⁠

At the sentencing hearing, prosecutors pointed to how he bragged about violating the victim’s personal autonomy, referenced previous convictions and said his behavior appeared to get worse.⁠

“He is terrorizing the community,” the judge said.⁠
⁠
The defense asked for him to be released on time served, and the judge refused.⁠
⁠
Betancur spoke briefly, said he was dealing with mental health issues and asked the judge to be “a little fair.”⁠
⁠
The judge responded directly, saying, "I don't intend to be a little fair; I intend to be completely fair."⁠
⁠
He said Betancur has not expressed any remorse and that he remains a threat to the community.⁠
⁠
Betancur faced a maximum possible fine of $1,000 but the judge ordered him to pay $50.⁠
⁠
The FBI has said Betancur is a self-professed white supremacist, who was photographed holding a Confederate flag during the Jan. 6 insurrection. He was sentenced to jail but later pardoned by President Donald Trump.⁠
