Coaches, this one’s for you 👇

There’s a moment every coach knows, when a kid looks up at you, waiting to hear if it’s okay to dream bigger than what they’ve been told is realistic. 

That moment is a privilege most people never get. 

Please don’t waste it 💜🙏

When you pick up the clipboard and you pull on the polo, you’re not just running a drill. You’re carrying something heavier: the responsibility of being the voice that tells a young person that their potential is real, that it’s okay for them to want more, and to wonder what’s actually waiting for them out there.

Your job isn’t to win a game of basketball, It’s to teach them how to compete, and more importantly, how to get back up when they fail, because they will. 

That’s the real reason we should be doing it. Everything else is just the ball bouncing, and the game clock ending. 

Here’s the hard truth: out of every 100 kids who pass through your program, maybe only 2 or 3 will truly get it. Maybe only a couple of them will look back one day and understand what you were really trying to hand them. 

Thats 👌, That’s not failure. That’s the job of a coach. 

If you show up for the right reasons, not for the scoreboard, not for the highlight reel, not for your own name on it , then those 2 or 3 kids you reach , don’t just play better. They start seeing themselves differently. They start seeing the whole world differently. They learn how to navigate whatever’s out there waiting for them in life. 

You need to win their hearts and minds first. Then the games will take care of themselves. 

That’s what’s really underneath the polo shirt and the clipboard. So really try to feel the weight of that , and then do your best to always carry it well. No matter if you win or lose a game of basketball. 

Remember- kids don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care. 🫡🏀💜
