The long line of kids photo is fools gold.

Every trainer chasing the biggest group, the busiest session, the best “look how many kids I coach” photo for the gram. I get it, it looks impressive. But large groups don’t work, and development suffers over time.

15 years coaching and mentoring young athletes across QLD taught me that the hard way. I used to run it big, 6 academy locations a week, 30+ kids a day, before Hornets even existed. Thousands of kids came through. 

Somewhere along the way I moved away from all that, and toward long-term development of smaller, dedicated groups. I pride myself on spotting talent early, but the real skill has been evolving my systems to motivate kids to work hard over years, not weeks.

I have seen so many of the kids i have worked with go on to play at every level of junior and senior basketball. Kids have played Representative, State, National, College and Professional levels of Basketball. Most people have no understanding of the amount of success and achievement that has taken place. 

It’s something i am incredibly proud of , and fortunate to have the ability and privilege to play a part in so many young peoples journeys. 🙏 

What thousands of kids and 15 years taught me:

1️⃣ You can’t want it more than they do.
2️⃣ Talent is not enough to succeed.
3️⃣ Early talent rarely translates into success.
4️⃣ Work ethic, attitude, and parental support play a huge role.
5️⃣ Surviving the brutal, political environment is hard, resilience of athletes and parents determines their real shot.

I have never chased kids to join my academy, and I don’t chase kids to join our club. 

They come now , for the same reasons all of those kids for the last 15 years did. Development. 

No BS and hard coaching that pushes you to be your best self. It’s not for everyone, but for those that buy in , the results are evident, and worth it.

My passion to continue to help kids grow and develop, is as strong today as it ever has been, and i am so excited to see the achievements of so many of the kids I work with over the next few years.
