The standard of tennis practice on Instagram is painfully low.

My feed is dominated by shadow swings, choreographed patterns, clock drills and predictable basket feeding.

They look clean.

They generate views.

They make players appear successful.

But tennis isn’t a choreography contest.

Where is the opponent?

Where is the uncertainty?

Where are the genuine decisions, adaptations and consequences that regulate behaviour during competition?

Many viral drills don’t help players learn to solve the problems of tennis. They remove the problems, prescribe the answers and then celebrate the resulting performance.

That might make practice look successful.

It tells us very little about potential transfer to match play.

However, I genuinely want to find and analyse more representative practices.

Tag a coach or page creating live, opposed practices containing genuine information, decisions and consequences.

Follow mytenniscoaching for evidence-based analysis of popular tennis practices and their potential for match transfer.

Educational disclaimer: This Reel critiques only the practices shown not the coaches, their wider work or the context surrounding each clip.
