The family of 29-year-old #TasiaFortune is speaking out after she was found hanging from a tree in the backyard of a vacant home in Jackson, Mississippi.

Her mother, #ChristySpivey, says she does not believe her daughter took her own life, describing Tasia as someone who loved life, her children and her family.

“There’s no way, no way that she took her own life,” Spivey said, adding that Tasia had previously told her family that if something happened to her, she would fight.

Spivey also said she does not believe her daughter’s death was racially motivated and hopes Tasia’s name will instead bring people together. She remembered her daughter as “the light of the room” and someone who would give to others even when she didn’t have much herself.

Tasia’s family says they plan to continue pushing investigators for answers. Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes has also asked the U.S. Attorney’s Office to assist with the investigation. (📸: apnews) ✍🏾: #TSRStaffLG
