For seven years, the biggest stories in the WWF ran through Miss Elizabeth.

She debuted in 1985 as Randy Savage’s manager and was billed as The First Lady of Wrestling. She was in Savage’s corner for the Ricky Steamboat match at WrestleMania III, and at WrestleMania IV she stood at ringside as he won four matches in one night to claim the vacant WWF Championship, lifting her onto his shoulder as the celebration ended.

The Mega Powers formed because of her, when she ran to bring Hulk Hogan to Savage’s aid in 1987. At the first SummerSlam in 1988, she provided the main event’s turning point, climbing onto the apron and removing her skirt to distract the Mega Bucks. The Mega Powers then exploded because of her, when Hogan carried her from ringside on The Main Event in 1989 and Savage saw betrayal, sending Hogan and Savage into the WrestleMania V main event.

At WrestleMania VII, after Savage lost his retirement match and Sensational Sherri attacked him, Elizabeth came out of the crowd to save him. Their reunion is one of the most replayed moments in company history, and their wedding headlined SummerSlam 1991. The Ric Flair program that followed, built on Flair’s claim that she was his first, carried the WWF Championship match at WrestleMania VIII.

Elizabeth is widely credited with redefining what a woman at ringside could mean to a wrestling story. She later worked through WCW’s nWo era.

Her hometown is honoring her now. The Lovely Miss Elizabeth exhibit at the Capital City Museum in Frankfort, Kentucky, built around her gowns, jewelry and memorabilia, runs into 2027. Admission is free, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
