For seven years, I was a stay at home mom. Before that, I was a housewife. I got the bachelors degree, the masters degree, and all the certification, then poured years into my family, leaving me with no traditional work experience. When I first started thinking a few months ago about how I wanted my career journey to unfold, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that make me question how qualified I actually was. Because on paper, there wasn’t just a gap, there was an abyss 🫣😅

I quickly realized I had to stop measuring everything I’d learned against such a narrow definition of “work experience.” During those years of taking care of the household and raising babies, I built a brand and an audience. I learned how to create content and tell stories that connect. I worked with brands I used to dream about working with as more than just an influencer: I became a strategist.

I became a licensed realtor, started momentstomediaco, became a Pilates instructor, and, more importantly, learned how to pitch myself, build community, solve problems, lead, create opportunities and figure things out when there was no blueprint telling me what to do next. None of that came with a traditional job title.

I think that’s what I want the woman staring at a job description thinking, “I don’t have enough experience for this,” to hear: Don’t let a lack of TRADITIONAL work experience convince you that you’re less qualified.

Look at what you’ve actually done, what you know how to do, and the skills you built in the years that somebody else might call a “gap.” In those gap years, you lived and learned, and that counts for more than you think it does! You just have to find an employer who appreciates all that you bring to the table.

I went from SAHM to entrepreneur to working mom AND entrepreneur and every single thing I learned along the way is what helped me land my dream job 🥹

Mamas, don’t let anyone tell you it’s not possible ♥️
