LIVE REVIEW: When the lines between heavy and electronic music are allowed to blur, something stirs in the atmosphere. A realisation that worlds that have always flirted with each other can become one in the name of a shared euphoria. A power bigger than all of us.
It’s a stance that Northlane have been treading the path of for many a year, and in having their moment on the Ronnie James Dio Stage, they demonstrate that truly anything is possible.
In the week that they announce their new album ‘Anemoia’, a project that is set to pull from the shimmering neon that defines the trance genre so beautifully, their brand of exploratory metalcore feels monolithic, with fresh offerings ‘Evian’ and ‘Cut_it’ sending shivers coursing up the spine.
That’s not to say there isn’t still space for plenty of battery, as a vicious ‘Talking Heads’ and throwback one-two whack of ‘Worldeater’ and ‘Dispossession’ demonstrate.
But it is within that space in the middle, where that opportunity to expand minds and ensnare senses sits, that the band truly thrive, and as more and more pockets of bodies before them lose themselves in the rhythm they have created, the more they lose themselves in it too.
A community moving to the same beat, as one.
Right now is an exciting time for Northlane, and in conquering stages like this in such a manner is even more reason they are ready for whatever this period in their storied journey is set to be defined by.
Time to lose yourself.
