Pixel Room is an exhibition and event made in partnership between Sari-Sari Xchange and Centre[4], curated by Cyril Gaaman Chen.

Pixel Room brings together artists from Ontario and the Prairies to explore boundaries between embodiment and mixed realities, action and stillness, and the digital and physical.

The exhibition showcases a soft retrospective focusing on the past 50 years of innovations in tactile, interactive, and digital media being consumed, used, and hacked with — by and for BIPOC communities.

Featured works and sound performances highlight changes in visual art, sound, and digital media, including hand-made beadwork, arcade cabinets, augmented reality, drums, dance, and live-coding.

Guests are invited to engage with installations labelled for interactivity. A seated area in the Member’s Gallery will feature reading copies of zines and micropress works by featured artist-authors.

Independent artists will be selling their micropress copies and hand-made works in person on August 21 and during SuperCrawl weekend, September 11–13.
