Late in his career, Lichtenstein turned the Ben-Day dot on the domestic. The source material wasn't comics — it was furniture ads pulled from phone books and newspaper inserts. Generic sofas. Nobody's living room in particular.

Then he hung his own paintings on the walls. And Monet's. And Matisse's. A picture of a room in which the picture is the point.
