## Caption

On August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law the Social Security Act. This act created a social insurance program that was designed to pay retired workers a continuing income after retirement. The program is near and dear to Howard because he has been retired for 27 years (Howard never had a career in the printing industry).  For today, Howard typeset and letterpress printed the name of that program. The text “Social Security Act” was typeset in 30 point Caslon font. This was printed with red rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. #SacHistoryMuseum #onthisday #museumtok #learnontiktok #printing
