Sacramento raised its buildings and streets in the 1860s and 1870s to prevent extreme flooding. The raising of buildings created underground spaces that served a variety of purposes for businesses and attracted a variety of guests. In this video, Aly discusses the cat skull that was found by archeologists in the 1970s while excavating the underground space of the B.F. Hastings building in Old Sacramento. Interested in learning more and want to take an Old Sacramento Underground Tour?
