Halfway through a back-to-back test day last summer, a buddy handed me the keys to his 1LE after I'd been ripping a Mustang GT around the same canyon loop all morning. Two corners in, I understood why Camaro guys are so insufferable about the Alpha platform — they're right.

The Mustang felt like a muscle car pretending to be a sports car. The Camaro felt like a sports car that someone accidentally gave 455 lb-ft of torque. The LT1 makes more twist than the Coyote, the 1LE chassis is genuinely in a different zip code dynamically, and somehow the market is punishing the Camaro for having worse interior visibility and a infotainment system designed by someone who hates human fingers. That's your opportunity.

Depreciation is doing the lord's work on 6th-gen SS prices right now. You're getting magnetic ride, an LSD, Brembo brakes, and a chassis GM spent real engineering dollars on — for less than a comparably equipped GT. The Coyote revs prettier and the Mustang's aftermarket is deeper, no question. If you want a cruiser that sounds incredible at 7,000 RPM with the top down, the GT is your car. But if you actually chase apexes more than you chase vibes, the SS is the objective answer and the market hasn't caught up yet.

The honest trade-off is livability. The Camaro's greenhouse feels like driving a mailbox slot. The back seat is a suggestion. The Mustang is easier to daily, easier to see out of, easier to love on a Tuesday morning commute. But nobody's buying a V8 coupe because they prioritize Tuesday morning commutes.

While everyone fights over S550 vs S650 pricing, the 6th-gen Camaro SS is sitting there like a cheat code with a depreciation coupon stapled to it.

Send this to the one still 'thinking about it' since 2024.
