We are excited to welcome back Tukaha Cooper as a development player for the BNZ Breakers this NBL26/27 season!👏👏
 
Proud descendent of the Ngāpuhi Iwi, Tukaha’s journey through the New Zealand basketball system has seen him play for the Manawatū Jets, Auckland Tuatara and Southland Sharks, building his game and earning his way to the next level at every step.
 
After three seasons with the Jets, Tukaha moved north to the Tuatara in 2024, helping Auckland reach the NZNBL Grand Final. He then headed south to the Sharks in 2025, where he produced the strongest season of his career.
His 2025 campaign saw him average 9.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 41% from three, as he became an important part of a Southland side that went all the way to the NZNBL Grand Final.

In Cooper’s standout debut campaign in the 2025 Rapid League, he was named Southland Sharks Rapid League MVP, averaging 10 points per game and establishing himself as one of the club’s most promising young guards.

He re-signed with the Sharks for 2026 and went on to become a Sal’s NBL champion, helping Southland claim the NBL26 championship title!🏆

 In January 2026, he made his Australian NBL debut for the Breakers against the Sydney Kings, becoming Breaker #167.
