## Caption

We know… prairie dogs are adorable! But when you visit Butterfly Pavilion, or encounter them out in nature, it’s important to give them space and follow the rules.

Butterfly Pavilion’s gardens are filled with lush plants and flowers and surrounded by prairies and wetlands right in our backyard. This habitat supports a variety of wildlife and provides the perfect environment for prairie dogs to make their homes. That said, touching or interacting with prairie dogs can come with risks, prairie dogs can carry illnesses that may be harmful to people and may feel stressed or threatened if approached too closely. Feeding them can also harm their digestive systems and reduce their natural instinct to forage for food. Interacting with prairie dogs can make them more comfortable approaching people and venturing into areas like parking lots, where they can be at risk of injury.

So remember, when you visit Butterfly Pavilion, please do not feed or touch the prairie dogs, and be sure to respect the plants and animals that call our gardens home
