Today, we celebrate the birthday of Alex Haley (1921-1992), whose work helped millions of people see Black history through the stories of families, ancestors, and generations.

Through Roots, Haley reminded us that knowing where we come from is part of knowing who we are. Black people have always carried history forward through stories passed down at kitchen tables, in churches, in communities, and from one generation to the next.

Our stories are our inheritance. Our history is ours to remember, protect, and pass on.

Remember Alex Haley’s life and legacy, and the generations of Black storytellers who refuse to let our history be forgotten. ✊🏿
