10 things I’ve done for my 2-year-old’s finances 🧸

1. Custodial Roth IRA. He’s a 1099 for my business, so his paychecks get invested. Tax-free growth for 60 years.

2. 529 for school. Started before he was born. Unused money can roll into a Roth later.

3. Regular brokerage account too. No tax break, but no restrictions. If he skips college, the money isn’t stuck.

4. Term life insurance and a will — for me. If something happens to me, he’s not starting from zero

5. Credit frozen at all 3 bureaus + an IRS Identity Protection PIN. Kids are the easiest ID theft targets — nobody checks a toddler’s credit for 18 years. 

6. Authorized user on my oldest credit card. He’ll never touch it, but the history reports under his name. A decade of credit before he applies for anything.

7. I won’t say “we can’t afford it.” I’ll say we’re not spending on that. One is scarcity. The other is a choice.

8. No talking about money like it’s dirty. Kids absorb that — and spend their 30s untangling it.

9. He’ll see the boring parts. Bills, budget, moving money. Not after he’s asleep.

10. I’m fixing my own money. He’ll copy what I do, not what I say.
