Timeshares are back — and younger travelers are buying them.

Modern programs can be more flexible than the old “same condo, same week, every year” model. But they still come with a major upfront cost, annual fees that may increase, and contracts that can be difficult to exit.

Before buying, compare the total cost with what you would realistically spend booking vacations yourself. And ask whether you would still want this travel commitment if your income, family, health, or vacation preferences changed.

For a small group of frequent, predictable travelers, the math may work. For most people, keeping their money (and their travel plans) flexible is probably more valuable.

Most importantly: a timeshare is prepaid travel, not a wealth-building investment.
