This is simply not always true - especially with driver!

For golfers who recenter really well, you’ll often times see a small shift to the trail side early in the backswing 

With a driver, the PGA Tour average sway at P3 is -1.6 inches via sportsboxai 

With an iron, it’s only -0.8 inches

Keep in mind - I see amateur golfers OVERDO this shift away from the target dramatically quite often ❌

This post is not to say “just shift away from the target because the pros do” but rather to say - if you DO shift away from the target a bit and you hit it well, don’t sweat it 👌
