Students sometimes turn to chatbots like ChatGPT, Copilot and Character.ai for help with schoolwork. 🤖

For a minority of teens, chatbots have become a go-to tool for much of their schoolwork. One-in-ten teens say they do all or most of their schoolwork with chatbots’ help.

Larger shares say they do some (21%) or a little (23%) of their schoolwork with the help of a chatbot. Another 45% haven’t used them in this way.

What are students using chatbots for? 🤔

About four-in-ten or more teens report having used chatbots to get help researching a topic or solving math problems for school.

By comparison, teens are less likely to turn to AI for help editing something they wrote. 📝

77% of U.S. adults support in-class cellphone bans for middle and high school students. 📱

And for the first time, more Americans now support than oppose a ban on students using cellphones during the entire school day: 48% back “bell-to-bell” school cellphone bans for middle and high school students, up from 36% in 2024.

53% of Americans think it is highly important for U.S. schools to offer Spanish classes.💬

Spanish is the second-most common language spoken at home in the U.S., after English. Among those ages 5 and older, 14% of the U.S. population speaks Spanish at home.

Several states recently have passed or proposed legislation to incorporate prayer or display the Ten Commandments in public schools.

An April 2026 survey finds that 78% of U.S. adults favor allowing students to voluntarily pray in student-led groups. Half say they favor displaying the Ten Commandments in classrooms.
