In 2025, over a third of global energy was generated through renewable sources, marking the first time renewable sources accounted for a larger share of global electrical production than coal. 

🇺🇸 26% of U.S. electricity came from renewable sources. 
🇨🇳 37% of China’s electricity was from renewable energy.
🌍48% of all electricity in the European Union came from renewable energy. 
🇯🇵 24% of Japan’s electricity was from renewable sources.

Brazil and Canada have long generated more power from renewable sources than fossil fuels. In 2025, 87% of Brazil’s and 64% of Canada’s electricity was from renewable sources. 

🇦🇺 Australia’s electricity generated from renewable sources rose to 39%.
🇮🇳 India generated 24% of its electricity from renewable sources in 2025. 
🇿🇦 14% of South Africa’s electricity was generated by renewable energy. 25 years ago, only 1% of South Africa’s electricity was from renewable sources.

Nigeria and Indonesia differ from many countries, with electricity from renewable sources in 2025 accounting for a smaller share than previously. 

🇸🇦 2% of Saudi Arabia’s electricity was generated by renewable energy in 2024. Before then, none of the electricity in Saudi Arabia was from renewable energy.
🇰🇷 10% of South Korea’s electricity was from renewable energy.
🇵🇰 47% of Pakistan’s electricity was generated from renewable sources.
