❗️This might have been the craziest week of car news in 2026, with Monterey Car Week delivering record-breaking auctions, new hypercars and some seriously enthusiast-focused machinery.

The biggest headline came from Carroll Shelby’s 1964 Cobra Daytona Coupe CSX2300, which sold for an incredible $42.905 million and became the most expensive American car ever sold at public auction.

Ferrari wasn’t far behind, as the first Luce EV “Chassis 0” reportedly brought $40 million at its charity auction before the buyer will even receive the finished car.

McLaren’s famous “Pop Art” F1 GTR also changed hands for $34.655 million, setting public-auction records for both McLaren and a British-built car.

Even the 1963 Corvette Grand Sport 003 exploded past expectations at $18.705 million, while a 227-mile Ferrari Daytona SP3 reached $17.825 million.

But Monterey wasn’t only about collectors throwing eight figures at old cars.

Lamborghini unveiled the Revuelto SV with 1,065 CV, 80% more downforce than the standard Revuelto and a claimed 0–100 km/h time of just 2.4 seconds.

Koenigsegg answered with the CCGT1, a road-legal track weapon making up to 1,600 hp on E85, offering a race-style sequential shifter and limited to only 70 already-sold examples.

Cadillac went full prototype racer with the V-One, combining V-Series.R-derived hardware with a single-seat cockpit and an 830-hp hybrid V8 powertrain.

Across the board, the theme this week was pretty clear: more power, more exclusivity, more motorsport influence and absolutely insane collector-car money.

It was also a surprisingly good week for enthusiasts who still care about mechanical involvement, naturally aspirated engines and machines built around the driver instead of just another acceleration number.

Between the auction records and all the new hardware, Monterey once again proved why Car Week has become one of the most important automotive events on the calendar.

Which story from this past week was the biggest one for you?

What are your thoughts? 🤔💭
