In this clip from a recent Dafeen @dafeenplatform podcast episode, Ahmad Zughaira (Abu Saeed), reflects on the critical humanitarian work carried out in Rukban Camp during some of its most difficult years.

Abu Saeed was a trusted community leader and an integral part of SETF’s ground team in Rukban. His leadership and deep connection to the community helped make it possible for SETF to reach thousands of displaced Syrians living under siege.

During this period, SETF helped provide food and humanitarian aid to approximately 8,000 civilians, medicine through the camp’s only no-cost pharmacy, education supplies for children, and access to doctors when these essential services were otherwise largely unavailable. After the UN left in 2019, SETF maintained a sustained humanitarian presence in Rukban, continuing to reach civilians during some of the camp’s most critical years.

Today, Abu Saeed continues that commitment to community service as the mayor of his hometown of Mahin, Syria.

‫كان أبو سعيد قائداً مجتمعياً موثوقاً به، وجزءاً أساسياً من الفريق الميداني للمنظمة السورية للطوارئ SETF في الركبان. وقد ساعدت قيادته وصلته العميقة بالمجتمع في تمكين SETF من الوصول إلى آلاف السوريين النازحين الذين كانوا يعيشون تحت الحصار.‬
‫خلال هذه الفترة، ساعدت SETF في توفير الغذاء والمساعدات الإنسانية لنحو 8,000 مدني، والأدوية من خلال الصيدلية الوحيدة المجانية في المخيم، واللوازم التعليمية للأطفال، وإتاحة الوصول إلى الأطباء في وقت كانت فيه هذه الخدمات الأساسية غير متوفرة إلى حد كبير. وبعد مغادرة الأمم المتحدة عام 2019، حافظت SETF على وجود إنساني مستمر في الركبان، وواصلت الوصول إلى المدنيين خلال بعض من أكثر سنوات المخيم حرجاً.‬

‫واليوم، يواصل أبو سعيد هذا الالتزام بخدمة المجتمع بصفته رئيس بلدية بلدته مهين في سوريا.‬
