After one season the Rockets have been kicked off the Christmas game slot! 🫩🥀 (SWIPE)

The NBA really left Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets off BOTH Opening Night and Christmas Day this season… 😭🚀

What makes it even crazier is that Houston was featured on both marquee dates last year. The Rockets opened the 2025-26 season against OKC on ring night, then played the Lakers on Christmas Day — a game Houston won 119-96 with KD putting up 25 points and 9 assists. 

Fast forward one year and KD gets nothing on either date. Meanwhile, Steph and the Warriors landed another Christmas matchup against Denver, while LeBron and Philadelphia will be featured on Opening Night against New York AND Christmas Day against the Lakers. 

Houston isn’t completely absent from opening week — the Rockets are scheduled to face San Antonio on October 23 — but they won’t be part of the actual October 20 Opening Night slate, and they’re nowhere on the five-game Christmas schedule. 

That feels pretty disrespectful considering Kevin Durant is still one of the biggest names in basketball, and Houston still has a loaded group around him with Amen Thompson, Alperen Şengün and the rest of that young core. You would think KD alone would be enough to get at least ONE marquee holiday game. 🤦‍♂️
