Investigators say broken engine parts caused the terrifying incident that left a Ryanair passenger partially pulled through a shattered cabin window.

A fan blade broke apart shortly after take-off from Thessaloniki, sending debris into the plane and damaging the window and surrounding fuselage.

The passenger, 61-year-old Ljubisa Karovic, suffered neck and shoulder injuries and friction burns before fellow travelers pulled him back inside.

Investigators also found bird remains inside the engine, although it is not yet clear what caused the fan blade to break.
