President Donald Trump on Monday signed and announced an executive order that will reshape federal childhood vaccination recommendations, an event the White House livestreamed.

During the signing event, Trump said the administration is announcing what he called the “United States of America's Gold Standard Childhood Vaccination Recommendations.” Trump said the recommendations involve several subjects, “including autism in particular.”

Some policy details being reported about the order come from draft versions obtained by CBS News and CNN, rather than a final published copy of the signed order. The draft executive order obtained by CBS News does not mention autism, despite Trump’s remarks during the event.

Extensive scientific research has found no evidence that vaccines cause autism. Still, Trump has pushed federal health officials to investigate possible links between vaccines and autism, despite extensive scientific research finding no causal link.

According to the reported draft, the executive order would call for a more limited set of vaccines to be routinely recommended for children and would direct the Department of Health and Human Services to reassess the sequencing and timing of childhood vaccinations within 90 days.
