MEET FANTCHA — FRANCELINA DURÃO ALMEIDA. 🇨🇻👑

A voice born in Chã de Alecrim, São Vicente.
A woman who has carried the soul of Cabo Verde across generations.

Fantcha began singing as a child before being discovered and trained by the legendary Ti Goy. Years later, he introduced her to Cesária Évora — the Barefoot Diva, the Queen of Morna, and one of the greatest voices our islands have ever produced.

Cesária recognized something special in Fantcha and invited her to perform alongside her. She became more than a student, she became family, learning the emotion, phrasing, feeling, and spirit that make Cabo Verdean music unforgettable.

But Fantcha is not a copy of anyone.

She is an icon in her own right.

Her voice carries morna, memory, love, longing, pride, and the history of our people. From São Vicente to Massachusetts, from the islands to the world, Fantcha has spent her life keeping Cabo Verdean culture alive through music.

Last Sunday, I had the honor of spending four unforgettable hours with her. Her humility, warmth, energy, and love for Cabo Verde made the day truly special.

This is only the beginning.
