But Michaely was not finished.

Against host nation Morocco in the semifinal, she kept another clean sheet through 120 minutes, saved a penalty during extra time and stopped three more in the shootout.

Born in Yaoundé, Michaely began her journey as a striker before her coach convinced her to become a goalkeeper. 

Only six months after changing positions, she was called into the national-team setup.

At 15 years old, she experienced the pain of losing the 2019 African Games final to Nigeria on penalties. Seven years later, she returned to eliminate that same football powerhouse and then carried her country through another penalty shootout just days later.

From helping Racing Power earn promotion in Portugal, to signing with Benfica and winning the Portuguese league and cup double, to becoming the face of African football’s biggest tournament.

She arrived at this WAFCON as a name much of the world did not know.

She may leave it as Africa’s next goalkeeping superstar.
