## Caption

Born in Hong Kong in 1950, American photographer Tseng Kwong Chi built a vibrant life for himself in New York City among the East Village’s artists and bohemians. In his lifetime, Tseng was known mainly as artist Keith Haring’s official photographer and close friend. However, he has since earned overdue recognition for his striking series of self-portraits, “East Meets West.”
