One of the world’s fastest marathoners recently came to Wake Forest looking for a scientific edge.

John Korir, the fifth-fastest marathoner in the world, worked with researchers in the Department of Health and Exercise Science to pinpoint his lactate threshold and fine-tune his training and racing paces.

The connection to Wake Forest began with wakeforestbiz alumni Emily and Keith Davis, owners of fleetfeetws and fleetfeetclemmons, whose years of service in Kenya brought them into contact with the Korir family. When Korir needed access to lactate testing, they knew where to turn.

“Now we are trying to bring science into my running,” Korir said.

The goal: help Korir get even faster as he prepares for the Valencia Marathon in December.
