The Indian men’s volleyball team has etched its name into history by winning its first-ever bronze medal at the AVC Men’s Cup 2026, defeating defending champions Bahrain 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17) in Ahmedabad.

After a heartbreaking five-set semifinal loss to Indonesia, India responded like champions, securing the biggest podium finish in the nation’s history at the tournament. Under Serbian coach Dragan Mihailovic, the team displayed resilience, fearless attacking, and incredible teamwork to announce India’s arrival on the Asian stage.

The historic campaign also brought a major boost in the FIVB World Rankings, with India climbing from 58th to 42nd in the world, one of the biggest ranking jumps of the tournament and a significant step forward for Indian volleyball.

With victories over New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Australia, and Bahrain, India proved they can compete with Asia’s best.
