Recent portraits from across the Pioneer Valley.

1. South Hadley sophomore Kelcey Zraunig, 16, speaks during a joint meeting of the Appropriations Committee, Capital Planning Committee, School Committee and Select Board at the Senior Center. The main discussion was about a proposal for a second Proposition 2 1/2 override vote, weeks after the previous vote failed. A number of high school students spoke at the meeting, denouncing the vote results as it would affect and ultimately stop funding for sports, music and fine arts, Advanced Placement classes and student-facing positions.

2. Barry Searle, musician and band leader of Barry Searle and the Wolf Hill Band.

3. South Hadley junior and three-sport athlete Roberto Melendez. Melendez’s senior sports season is in jeopardy after the town rejected both the $9 million and $11 million Proposition overrides that would help fund the school’s sports teams, extracurricular activities, student-facing positions and other public entities, including the public library and senior center.

4. Joshua “Mimi” Kilcoyne at the Northampton Center for the Arts. Kilcoyne performs as a bouffon, a type of clown that, instead of being the butt of jokes, turns the joke on the audience and mocks them.

5. Richie Wills, writer and MFA candidate in prose at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, at Childs Park. Northampton Arts Inc. and the Northampton Arts Council selected Wills as a recipient of the BJ Goodwin Fund.

6. Author and illustrator Esmé Shapiro, right, reacts as librarian Sarah Johnson, left, brings out a cake shaped after Ruthie, a character from Shapiro’s book “Ruthie,” during an unveiling of the new mural by Shapiro at Forbes Library.

7. Green Street Trio Pianist Paul Arslanian performs at The Drake. Arslanian was recently recognized as a 2026 Jazz Hero by the Jazz Journalists Association.

8. Steve “Minotaur” Daytime at the Northampton Center for the Arts. Daytime performs as a bouffon, a type of clown that, instead of being the butt of jokes, turns the joke on the audience and mocks them.
