Ten years later, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call co-writer Katie Dippold is reflecting on the backlash surrounding the 2016 reboot.

Speaking with vanityfair, Dippold pushed back against the idea that anyone who disliked the film was automatically sexist, stating that people “can not like the movie,” while also acknowledging that genuine sexism was very much part of the backlash, ultimately concluding that “both things were true.”

"The reaction was more hateful than I would’ve anticipated. But it’s also Twitter. Sometimes a hundred people on Twitter feels like the entire world. It became this thing where if you said you didn’t like the movie, you were sexist. And that’s not true. You can not like the movie. But then there were also people who were very sexist. So both things were true."
