America’s public school system serves more meals every day than McDonald’s, Subway, and Starbucks combined.

Think about that. The largest restaurant chain in the country is our schools — and we’ve been handing kids heat-and-serve trays of ultra-processed food that now make up 67% of their daily calories. We’re seeing adult-onset diseases show up in 10-year-olds. We’re spending $3 trillion a year treating preventable, diet-related illness.

But here’s what gives me hope: this is fixable. On this week’s episode, Nora LaTore nourishedwithnora of eatrealcertified shows how schools are swapping packaged “taco sticks” for scratch-cooked meals with locally sourced ingredients — and cutting 34 pounds of sugar per student, per year.

Not in some pilot program a decade from now. Right now.

The lunchroom could be the healthiest restaurant in town. Nora explains exactly how we get there — and what parents can do this week to help.
