Before I head to lansing_shuffle to celebrate #517Day, I want to highlight what I love about Lansing.

Although Detroit is and will always be my first home, once I graduated high school, as was on my way to Michigan State University (michiganstateu), there was no turning back; my room was gone the night before I left.

Leaving home at the age of 17 meant that Lansing (and East Lansing) raised me. Since making a home in Lansing, for the most part, this is where I've been. I randomly took off to Houston in 2017 from feeling trapped and stagnant, but things weren't clicking as quickly as I'd hoped there. At first, I wasn't planning on returning to Michigan, but being away made me realize that I needed to do some inner work to be happy wherever I was. I finally decided to head back in 2020, thinking Detroit was the spot, but unknown to me at the time, I ended up back in Lansing instead.

From my first roommate outside of my siblings, my first bar outing, and my first apartment to getting my license, my first big girl job, and many relationships, living in Lansing has given me too many memories to count. I #LoveLansing for many reasons, but mostly because being here has taught me so much and has been a catalyst in my coming-of-age story.

Happy #517Day, Lansing — See you outside!
