Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an executive order Tuesday that restricts data center development in Pennsylvania.

The order implements “GRID” — the Governor’s Responsible Infrastructure Development requirements.

Shapiro had been an early supporter of data center development in the state, but there's been pushback from communities and local leaders.

In Upper Merion, Montgomery County, the township recently rejected a proposal to build five data centers.
