here’s why there are 3 phones inside each MLB dugout:

1. bullpen phone: a direct connection to the pitching coach in the teams bullpen, allowing for instant communication regarding who’s warming up and pitching changes 

2. replay phone: enables real-time, fast communication between those examining replays inside and the coaches/manager that needs to relay to umpires whether their team will challenge a call or not 

3. press box phone: to allow communication with game administrators, media coordinators, etc. if necessary during the course of a game
