Bigfoot sighting in New York City! 👣

Okay, not actually Bigfoot. We’re talking about Lady Liberty…though with an estimated shoe size of 879, she could probably give a Sasquatch a run for its money. (Based on the fact that her feet are about 25 feet long.)

The Statue of Liberty National Monument was dedicated in 1886, by President Grover Cleveland. A gift from the people of France, this 151-foot copper icon stands on what is now known as Liberty Island in New York Harbor. It was designated a national monument in 1924.

A few more facts to impress your friends:

🗽 The copper exterior is only 3/32 of an inch thick — less than the thickness of two pennies stacked together.
🗽 The famous green color, called a patina, is the result of natural weathering as the copper reacted with the elements.

So, no, Bigfoot hasn’t moved to NYC. But a giant statue with enormous feet has been standing watch over the harbor for nearly 140 years.

Have you visited the Statue of Liberty National Monument?
