“I have so much pride to be Filipino American, to be Asian American, and to be part of the broader Asian and Pacific Islander American community. That pride shapes everything I do, both in my work at UC San Diego and in the communities I’m part of beyond campus.

I often describe my role as a special events and outreach coordinator in Electrical and Computer Engineering ucsandiegoece as being part of a high school Associated Student Body, just without the homework. I help create experiences that bring people together, support student organizations, and highlight the innovation happening across our department. Even though my work isn’t in the classroom, it still plays an important role in the overall student experience, and it’s rewarding to contribute to the futures our students are building.

That same sense of connection and belonging is what drew me to the Pacific Islander and Asian American Staff Association ucsandiegopasa. After years of watching from the sidelines, I joined in 2021 and found a welcoming, campuswide network that enriched both my personal and professional life. Those connections help me better support students and colleagues through collaboration and shared resources.

Outside of work, my life is deeply rooted in my Filipino heritage. My family is from the Bicol region of the Philippines, and I grew up immersed in community through the Bicol Club of San Diego County, where I first learned traditional Philippine folk dance. Today, I continue that passion with pasacatinc, helping preserve and share our culture with the next generation. Representation matters deeply to me because when people see their identities and traditions reflected, it fosters pride and belonging.

That’s why the Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Celebration means so much. Seeing our cultures honored in shared spaces sends a powerful message that our communities are valued and respected. I hope everyone can feel that same pride in who they are and where they come from.”
