A large, abstract canvas by Willem de Kooning soared past its low estimate in the Robert Mnuchin: Collector at Heart Evening Auction in May. After a lively bidding battle at #SothebysNewYork, the painting achieved $10.8 million.

De Kooning made ‘Untitled’ in 1970 while living on the beach in East Hampton. During this period, his paintings were lush and spellbinding, as the natural wonders of the Long Island shores inspired his radical abstractions.
