Cal will feature new faces carrying the ball this season as it looks to reshape a stagnant running back group that averaged just 81.7 yards per game in 2025.

Lead rusher Kendrick Raphael transferred to Southern Methodist University after accounting for nearly 90% of the Bears’ rushing yards last season, while Brandon High Jr. is returning to the University of Texas at San Antonio after one season with the Bears.

Cal turned to the transfer portal to reload the position, bringing in Washington junior Adam Mohammed, UC Davis redshirt sophomore Carter Vargas and University of Texas at El Paso redshirt sophomore Ashten Emory. The trio combined for 1,540 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 292 carries last season, giving the Bears three experienced players to help revamp their offense. The newcomers will join three returning players and a high school recruit, giving Cal a mix of experience and youth in the position.
