Five podcasts that changed how I understand coaching.

1. The Perception & Action Podcast

Rob Gray introduced the science behind perception-action coupling, ecological dynamics and representative practice.

It changed the questions I ask.

Instead of “What should the movement look like?”, I now ask what information is shaping it, what problem is the player solving, and does the practice preserve transfer conditions?

2. The Talent Equation

Stuart Armstrong showed me that coaching sits inside a wider development system.

Pathways, selection, culture, relationships and coach education all shape opportunity.

It shifted my focus from improving drills to questioning the environment around the player.

3. The My Tennis Coaching Podcast

My own podcast forces clarity.

It’s a space to test ideas, challenge assumptions and translate skill-acquisition theory into real coaching contexts.

Explaining concepts publicly constantly exposes what I don’t yet understand.

4. The Adaptable Athlete Podcast

Javier Miller-Estrada’s cross-sport discussions deepened my thinking on adaptability and scaling complexity.

The goal isn’t one “correct” solution it’s building athletes who can find effective solutions as situations change.

5. The Constraints Collective

This podcast moves ecological dynamics beyond social media simplifications.

It explores representative practice, task design, constraints-led coaching and the real uncertainty of applying theory.

It reminded me: ecological coaching isn’t a set of games it’s a way of understanding learning and environments.

These podcasts didn’t give me answers to copy.

They helped me ask better questions.
