'before sunrise' is such a beautiful film 🫂🎥

the movie stars ethan hawke alongside julie delpy, and it was inspired by a real experience that the director richard linklater had 25 years prior to the project's release

without giving too much away, 'before sunrise' explores a spontaneous experience of two people who just met — and they decide to spend their last 12 hours that they have on the same continent around the city of vienna

the word 'transitory' is used in the script, and it could not be a better description of how it feels to watch the movie. these two exist in a liminal space where the normal rules of life don't apply; simply allowing them to be free, floating through the in between

it's an honest and awe inspiring look into the life of others that has a cult following for a reason, and despite releasing in 1995, it was just recently added into the national film registry in 2025 to further prove its cultural significance

'before sunrise' ended up being turned into a trilogy, and sadly the woman who this story was inspired with actually passed away at 24 in a motorcycle crash — only a few weeks before the first movie started filming

all in all this was such a beautiful watching experience, so i had to make a post about it despite there being little relation to music (which is what i usually cover)
